Biographical Information:
Susan Nemetz-de La Loza was born and raised in Sacramento. Community college inspired her love for creating art in the printmaking studio and ceramics facility. Upon moving to Los Angeles, she furthered her interest in sculpting and obtained a BFA in sculpture at Long Beach State University. Sculpting evolved into creating tile, assemblage and painted art furniture. The enjoyment of acrylic painting became her focus in the development of a figurative approach to the work. The current portraits are evocative of a moment in time in which the artist has been transformed by the process of creating the piece.

Artist Statement:
I paint portraits that evoke a narrative that is multilayered and in tune with my inner world and external reality.  Each piece is woven from personal experiences and observations of the natural world.  Using a color palette that is exuberant and layered I explore the connections between my subjects and their environment.  I endeavor to create not just visually appealing pieces but invite the viewer to a dialogue prompting reflection into the complexities of the human condition. Inspiring to me, is the interconnection between the natural world and the stories that each individual carries.

Painting with acrylic on canvas and wood, I explore human consciousness that becomes manifest through the process of creating. My color choices evoke a sense of playful whimsy and often take on an ethereal dimension. A dynamic tapestry of cultures is explored in the themes that I portray.

As an artist, my goal is to inspire introspection and cultivate a more empathetic and inspiring view of the world. The work is reflective of my journey, a mosaic of moments and memories providing an insight to the future. This moment in time seeks to encapsulate my artistic evolution and vision.
