Biographical Information:
Artist Statement:
I'm a Los Angeles-based artist influenced by the effects of the African Diaspora and the healing related to the Black American/American experience.
My work is often symbolicthe and I incorporate surrealism.
I use a realistic style and compose highly detailed figurative art drawn from my own photoshoots of living persons and my imagination. I also do a lot of research. I primarily use Pencil.
The majority of my work serves as a visual platform to reveal historical information that might otherwise be forgotten by erasure. I aim to create an artistic viewpoint that gives way for hope, justice, love, and Personal Well-Being. Also, throughout my career, I have used my inspired art as a tool for education, healing, dialogue, and empowerment across diverse communities and generations.
However, the three inspired Pencil artworks submitted for consideration are titled "Omniscient Love, How 'Eye' Wonder, and Rejoice." They are a bit lighter in subject matter but also tug at the soul. They symbolize & evoke Love, Consciousness, and Joy, created with passion in my realism style. My work is in the permanent collection of the Laguna Art Museum and featured with the Los Angeles Lakers. I was an Artist-In-Residence Instructor in South LA and taught art at UCLA for 8 years. I graduated from Pratt Institute of Art in NY.
Also, my work has been showcased at the Smithsonian, Getty Collection, MOCA LA and Laguna Art Museum; It's used in major studio films and on network TV.
Noted collectors include Arianna Huffington, Halle Berry, Dick Van Dyke, Barbara Sinatra, Queen Latifah, Tasha Smith, Eddie Griffin, The LA Dodgers and United Airlines. I'm also very grateful to have received numerous prestigious awards.
