Biographical Information:
Born in Glendora, California, Brian’s family moved to Pasadena when he was five years old. Except for a few years he has lived there his entire life, raising his three sons with his wife Peggy.
He worked his entire career as an electrical engineer, but had an interest in printing since high school. Brian was fascinated by the art of M. C. Escher at an early age, and later in life was introduced to the wide variety of Japanese woodblock prints by his artist mother-in-law Sadako Mano. A long time collector of prints, in his retirement he began to create his own art prints in both the western and Japanese method of printing.
Artist Statement:
Usually from joy but occasionally from sorrow, all my art is meaningful to me although why that is may not be apparent from the image alone. I try to focus on where I find beauty, whether that is from the natural world, my imagination, or even geometry.
I enjoy the process of creating prints, the focused concentration required to carve or print an image and being “in the zone” for hours paying total attention to where you are and what you are doing. Although I have learned many things throughout my life by self study of books or media, this art is something that one must definitely learn by doing. At this point in my artistic career some of my prints are chosen in part to explore a new technique.
As of now the muse strikes me with more ideas than I have time to produce, so I plan to continue to create prints for a long time to come.
