Mabel Alvarez (1891-1985)
Born: Oahu, Hawaii, 1891 Died: Los Angeles, California, 1985
Mabel Alvarez arrived in Los Angeles in 1909. Though still in high school, she was already interested in painting and gained much from Los Angeles High School instructors such as James McBurney. She displayed her talent in several areas including architectural rendering, interior decorating and figurative painting.
Alvarez later studied with Stanton MacDonald-Wright and Morgan Russell. She exhibited in Los Angeles, San Francisco and at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Alvarez was a member of the Pasadena Society of Artists.
