Katherine Beecher Stetson (Chamberlin) (1885 -1979)
Born: Providence, Rhode Island 1885 Died: Pasadena, California 1979
Katherine Beecher Stetson was the grand niece of Harriet Beecher Stowe. She was married to F Tolles Chamberlin. She worked as a painter, sculptor, and owned the gallery “Pasadena Arts and Crafts” where the work of many artists including the Pasadena Society of Artists members was featured. Stetson studied art under da Pozzo, Sabate, Noel and Breck in Rome, Italy. PAFA under Chase, Kendall and Beaux; landscape under H.D. Murphy and Birge Harrison, Leonard Ochtman and F. Tolles Chamberlin. Memberships include Macdowell Memorial Association; Sculptors Guild of Southern California; California Art Club; and a charter member of the Pasadena Society of Artists. Awards: Gold Medal for sculpture, California Art Club,1925; Honorable Mention, San Diego FAG, 1926; Second Prize, Los Angeles County Fair, 1926.
