Antoinette Deforest Merwin (1861-1941)
Born: Cleveland, Ohio 1861 Died: Pasadena, California 1941 Merwin studied at the Art students League in New York City, St. Paul School of Fine Arts, and in Paris with Courtois, Collin and Whistler. She lived in Montclair, New Jersey for several years before moving to California in the early 1920s. She was a charter member of the Pasadena Society of Artists. Other memberships included the California Art Club and the San Diego Art Guild. Awards included an Honorable Mention at the Paris Salon in 1900. Exhibitions included the California State Fair in 1930. The Boston Art Club and the Cuyamaca Club in San Diego are among the many collections where her work is held.
Studying at the ASL/NYC and in Paris with Collins, Courtois and Whistler, she moved to Los Angeles during the 1920's.
